How to Choose the Right Size Greenhouse Shed for Your Yard and Goals

The best greenhouse is the one that fits how you actually garden — not just the biggest one that will fit. Here’s a practical guide to sizing an Infinite Sheds greenhouse based on what most homeowners want to do.

Start with Your Main Goal

  • Seed starting & a few pots → 8x10 or 8x12 is usually plenty
  • Regular vegetable growing + potting space → 8x14, 8x16, or 10x16–10x20
  • Serious production, multiple benches, or mixed use → 12x14, 12x16, or larger

Consider Layout and Features
Our greenhouses commonly include potting benches on multiple sides. A longer model (for example 10x20 or 12x16) gives better workflow than a short, wide one. If you plan on a temperature-controlled fan or extra shelving, factor that into usable floor space.

Site and Access Matter
Think about sun exposure (most of the day is ideal), proximity to water, and how you’ll move plants or soil in and out. The door style and floor design (water-draining treated boards) help, but the location is still the most important decision.

Popular Starting Points
Many first-time buyers choose an 8x12 or 10x16. These sizes give real growing room without overwhelming a typical backyard, and they remain easy to heat/cool if you add a fan. Larger models work well when you already know you’ll expand production or want dedicated workspace.

We Make Customizing Easy
All sizes are built to order with options for benches, fans, window layouts, and exterior finishes. We’ll also help with delivery, foundation advice (including stone pads), and any local permitting questions.
